Ferrari is back

Being a Ferrari fan myself, I am happy to state that Ferrari has once again become a competitive force in Formula One motorsport. Last year, Ferrari and McLaren were busy utilizing the resources to fight each other till the last race of the Formula One championship. Thus, they did not have ample time to develop a competent car for the following year. While McLaren is still struggling with its aerodynamic inefficiency, Ferrari has slowly crawled its way back to the grid to compete with the top teams. In Spain, we saw Ferrari overpower Red Bull and in Monaco, Ferrari were fighting for the top position. I expect Ferrari to improve throughout the year and it won’t be long until Ferrari wins its first race of the season. The next race is Turkey where Ferrari with Massa, has won three years in a row. Turkey is made up of long straights, so expect the Ferrari to utilize its KERS power to fight for victory.

The wonder called Brawn GP

How did a team, with no sponsorship for 2009, become a force to be reckoned with? In the beginning of the year, Honda had no buyers and did not even get the opportunity to test their 2009 Formula One car. However, Honda (now Brawn GP) took the opportunity to halt their 2008 car developments, and instead began concentrating on the 2009 specifications of their F1 car. In 2008, Honda realized that they were at the back of the grid, and decided very early in the season to focus their effort on the 2009 car. The results of one whole year of development became fairly visible when Brawn GP achieved its 1-2 position in the first race of the Formula One season. Honda decided to pull out of F1 for the 2009 season and sold its team to Ross Brawn. Brawn, with his immense talent took the opportunity to take Brawn GP to the leader board in both the championships, i.e. Constructors as well as the Driver’s title. It will be merely a matter of time before Brawn GP clinches both these titles. However, expect the big guns, McLaren and Ferrari to disrupt their plans in the next season.

FOTA Vs FIA

It’s a time of recession and like any other business, Formula 1 is trying to reduce the cost of the sport. The FIA came up with the proposal to apply a spending limit of 45 Million Euros for the teams next year. However, the FOTA (Formula One Teams Association) rejected this ruling stating that most teams would unable to comply with the budget. Teams like Ferrari spend nearly 10 times the amount of that budget in a single year in Formula One. By cutting 90% of their cost, Ferrari and the other teams argue that they will unable to research any component to develop the construction of the car. Formula One is the pinnacle of motorsport racing and this sport has led to the discovery of many innovations that have been applied to road cars. If the cap on spending limit is enforced, most team will not be able to apply their resources to further develop their car. Expect the FOTA to win this contest for scraping this ruling for the next year of Formula One.

Sport Injuries

The IPL 2.0 tournament is finally over, but the stress of playing more cricket is just beginning for the players. Especially the Indian team has played non – stop cricket for quite a months now. The entire team followed the tour of New Zealand and pounced on the IPL 2.0 tournament. With back to back matches, most players felt the stress to deliver their best performance. And with one week to rest, the Indian players have yet to go through the same strain of 20 – 20 matches in the T-20 World Cup. A tournament where players are forced to manufacture shots before they can get their eye in, is bound to generate a few stirs in the fitness camp. With 20 – 20 cricket being branded as an entertainment sport, let’s just hope that the careers of our team members is not shortened due to excessive cricket. The T20 World Cup is quickly followed by the tour of West Indies, where we expect to receive the entire strength of the Indian squad.

IPL 2.0 Winners

In the end, the Deccan Chargers did turn out to be “THE UNSTOPPABLES”. Under the great captaincy of Adam Gilchrist, the Deccan Chargers were able to deliver a commendable performance to win the second version of the IPL. Their captain certainly led the team from the front to control and exploit each and every player from his squad. Moreover, Adam Gilchrist was the leader on scoring the most number of sixes in the IPL tournament. IPL is all about scoring runs in a hurry. Interesting statistics reveal that three players from the top six were amongst the players who scored the most number of sixes in this tournament.
Batsmen Number of sixes
Adam Gilchrst ( Deccan Chargers) 29

Matthew Hayden ( Chennai Super Kings) 21

Suresh Raina ( Chennai Super Kings ) 20

R Sharma ( Deccan Chargers ) 17

Yuvraj Singh ( Kings XI Punjab) 16

The Champs Are Back

Last night, we saw the Rajasthan Royals achieve a milestone of making over 200 runs. Who would have thought that one of the weakest teams of this year's IPL 2.0, would have manage to achieve this much awaited feat. The absence of some key players from last year's IPL certainly weakened the structure of the team. The Rajasthan Royals struggled tremendously in their batting lineup to score and achieve meager totals. Thanks to their Lethal Weapon Yusuf Pathan, the team was able to win some close matches from their competition. But watch out for this team, as it has regrouped its batting strategies and come out and played the most awaited knock of the tournament. The revival of Graeme Smith has certainly improved their battling lineup, but the biggest surprise will unfold next week. The IPL 1.0 man of the tournament, Shane Watson will rejoin the squad in the upcoming week. Thus, watch out for the Rajasthan Royals to climb the charts to reach the semi-finals, and maybe defend their crown for the championship.
